This is my new favourite poem by Mary Oliver ‘The Swan‘

Did you too see it, drifting, all night, on the black river?

Did you see it in the morning, rising into the silvery air -

An armful of white blossoms,

A perfect commotion of silk and linen as it leaned

into the bondage of its wings; a snowbank, a bank of lilies,

Biting the air with its black beak?

Did you hear it, fluting and whistling

A shrill dark music – like the rain pelting the trees – like a waterfall

Knifing down the black ledges?

And did you see it, finally, just under the clouds -

A white cross Streaming across the sky, its feet

Like black leaves, its wings Like the stretching light of the river?

And did you feel it, in your heart, how it pertained to everything?

And have you too finally figured out what beauty is for?

And have you changed your life?

<![endif]-->A few weeks ago our Peaceful Heart’s Circle gathered with the intention to ‘recognize and respect our ancestors as we evolve on our authentic path’. Weaving together the information from our journeys we entered into ceremony to acknowledge, respect, and recognize our ancestors, while honoring their stories and restoring their honor where it had been tarnished. The intention included soldiers and their families who have been affected by war. We moved forward, guided by Spirit, along the evolving authentic path that each of us is walking step by step.

Under a starry night, we gathered around a beautiful fire, placing into the flame that which was ready to be released, baring ourselves as we bared our alter of the beautiful collection of leaves, feathers, berries and flowers that we had gathered.

We danced under the stars with eyes closed, listening to the stories that the Spirit of the Land held for us and shared these stories that wished to be heard, recognized and honoured. We prepared ourselves to step onto our authentic path with a blessing from one another and the Spirit of water.

On the next day, the children who were present taught us a beautiful song of ‘Remembering’. We continued our ceremony by singing the song while walking along an old path lined with trees and rose bushes that had been planted by the ancestors, who silently stood listening while baring witness to what was unfolding.

There was an army of soldiers marching behind as the youngest child led us singing the song of Remembering. They were marching with us as we drummed and rattled behind her. The army of soldiers grew and grew. They were marching in rhythm, with pride, and singing a song that lifted their Spirits and honoured their courage and their best intentions. They were moved by our invitation to restore the sense of their own worthiness, even as the pain of everything that has transpired in reality was not thrust aside.

We arrived in an area where we started to gather in a circle. An acorn was placed on the ground in the centre of our circle. Then one of the soldiers placed his rifle in the centre of the circle. Another added his, then another and another. A huge tipi of rifles, a kind of swelling pyre of rifles started to grow as each soldier stepped forward and then stepped back.

A mast arose amidst the gathered rifles and a peace flag was raised slowly and with patience. The flag was picked up by the wind, rustling and sweeping its message of peace. Then the acorn was buried in the ground. The youngest child did this, with the assistance of one of our ‘peaceful warriors’. As the acorn grows into a beautiful oak, it holds the name: “The Oak of Peace”.

We were all conscious of the families whose brothers and fathers never came home. And we were also conscious of those soldiers who came home so pained that they were never the same. All through this weekend, we had been honouring our ancestors, their stories and the stories held by the spirit of the land. This ceremony was the culmination of our time together.

At this time of Remembering, may we acknowledge the stories within and all around us, offering gratitude to those who walked before us. <!--[if gte mso 9]>

“I know in every cell of my being that we can shift the challenges on the planet today by working together to bring forth the invisible energies into the visible. And as a global community we can manifest a world filled with harmony, peace, health, love, light, abundance, and joy for all. We must move out of defeatist ways of thinking and keep our focus on the vision of the world we wish to live in.”

In June 2010, I began what would turn out to be a 13 day, 189 km walk of the Maitland River. The Maitland is my home river, and for months I had been planning this walk.

During the planning of this walk, I had been dreaming about a sacred container that I could carry water from the Maitland around in, so that I had some of the beautiful water with me from the beginning of the walk to the end. This container would be a glass jar,and I was planning on creating a beautiful knitted piece to hold this glass jar. The jar would be connected to my backpack, or to my clothing somehow.

Well, time went by, and I realized that while I had been making other preparations, I had not had time to create this knitted piece, or to find a proper jar to hold this lovely water in. So, I quickly created a piece, that was nothing like what I had hoped it would look like, and I found a jar, that didn’t look anything like what I had hoped it would look like.

When June 13th, the first morning of the walk came about, I saddled myself up with all my travelling goodies, including this jar of water that I brought from my home, and along with my friend, Marie, we began walking the Maitland River. For the first 5 days, I carried this bottle with me, though I could not figure out why this just did not seem right. Somehow, the jar just wasn’t fitting in with this walk the way that I had thought it should.

I tried different things with the jar, placing it differently in where it was being carried,or adding sacred items that I found along the way, but nothing seemed to change the feeling that something was not working well with this jar of water. So, finally, I decided to ask. It may seem a little behind schedule, but I hadn’t journeyed on this particular aspect of the walk yet, and thought that perhaps, it was time. One of my helping spirits is quite a joker, and during this journey he quite happily asked, “Do you not realize that you have been carrying sacred water for a very longtime?”

I asked what he meant, and he told me that my body was the sacred water container, and that there had been no need to create a container outside of myself. I was carrying the sacred water from the beginning, and before, to the end and beyond. I laughed as I realized how simple this idea is. I drink from the Maitland River, so my body carries the Maitland River. I am the Maitland River. If I love, and am thankful for the water that is in my body, then the water that goes out to the Maitland river is loved water.

During my walk, when I met up with people, I would ask them to imagine that their water had a voice, and could speak. Then, I asked them what they think that their water would say. Now, I ask you to close your eyes, and to connect with the sacred water that you carry around that is your body. If your water had a voice and could speak, what do you think it would say?

Don Martin Pinedo Acuna (El Condor, the Condor Shaman) and Marco Nunez Zamolloa (Shaman and Teacher) bring us the wisdom teachings and medicine ways of the Andes of Peru. Don Martin and Marco share their vision, wisdom, and energy with us during a full program of workshops and healing sessions at Northern Edge Algonquin and at healing sessions in Toronto.

We are honoured to have these great healers with us in the North to share their ways of the South. They come to us in fulfillment of the Inca prophecies that speak of the time when the Condor (South) once again shares the sky with the Eagle (North). This is a powerful time of growth and transformation for all who share the Earth and is a time long awaited by all who have knowledge of the ancient prophecies.

Join us for this incredible opportunity and bring the Inca wisdom teachings into your life to deepen your spiritual journey. Come hear the sacred message of the Condor to the Eagle.

We are invited by these acclaimed shamans to re-connect our hearts and spirits and our great Mother Earth through sacred ceremony, wisdom teachings, and journeys that have been known for millennia by the Inca of Peru.

Enveloped by ayni (perfect reciprocity) and munay (right love), the guiding principles of the Inca, we will re-connect to our true centre; our hearts. As we come into ayni, munay and balance, we walk the Earth in greater beauty, love and joy than we ever thought possible. We do this to heal not only ourselves, but to create space for a new Earth, new Humanity and new Paradigm to take hold.

Be present to fulfill the ancient prophecies — come into ayni, engage the world through munay, and balance Yanatin-Masintin (the univeral energy forces that reside in us and all energy of the universe).

Come experience the prophesized flight of the Condor and the Eagle for yourself! Learn more about Peruvian Shamans at the Edge

In July, just after returning from a Vision Quest I had a dream. I was in Algonquin Park with a circle. I saw gaps between people in the circle and was doing my best to let the circle know it was important to close the gaps. Everyone’s attention was directed at something else and they did not hear me. I repeated my concern several times, as I looked out beyond the trees and landscape.

Suddenly, I saw a black wolf coming towards the circle. I stomped the staff that was in my hand to get the attention of everyone, and with my strongest voice I called the circle to close. The gaps in the circle closed as a black wolf encircled us.

We have arrived at the times of big change. All around us is enormous fear, envy, despair, anger, jealousy, conflict, sadness, illness, disease and confusion.

As the circle expands the potential for bringing about positive change on our
planet also expands. It is very important for the ‘gaps’ to be closed and for the space inside to be kept clean, clear and sacred. It is the ‘shadow’, within ourselves and others that looks for openings to enter the circle causing division, separation and fragmentation.

The dream inspired these journey questions. What is needed to close the gaps and mend the fabric that connects us all? How do we maintain the integrity of the circle?

It is the power of love that heals and fills the gaps in the circle. May our circles continue to expand and strengthen with the power of love at our center.
